Welcome to St. Columba’s BNS
Situated on a five acre campus in the heart of Douglas, our school has been a centre for learning for over 100 years. Our most important resource is our staff, the Principal, class teachers and learning support teachers. We also have, in addition classroom assistants, administrative and maintenance staff
The school is well equipped with audio/visual aids. Each class has access to computer facilities including a laptop for each teacher. All classrooms are equipped with projectors to enhance the learning environment of the school. In 2009, we installed a state of the art audio visual system in the school hall which includes a 9ft screen and surround sound facilities.
The main subjects in our school are: Irish, English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Religion, Nature, Physical Education, Arts & Crafts, Music & Singing, Drama, Social, Personal and Health Education. French is taught in senior classes.
For several years now, both as a fundraiser and in line with our Green Policy we have ran recycling days in conjunction with Lenrec Ltd. We collect adult and children’s clothes, paired shoes, trainers handbags, belts and ties, curtains, bedding including quilts, towels, soft and cuddly toys and mobile phones.
We have had great support from parents in the past and it is a great excuse to sort out your cupboards and have a clean out with the change of season upon us. If donating mobile phones, can you please ensure these are kept apart from the textiles and placed into a separate bag when handed in. Where possible the clothes and textiles donated will be reused but if torn or beyond use, they can still be recycled for use in industry for example, padding in cars, rags etc. Further information on Lenrec Ltd is available on www.lenrec.ie
All donations can be dropped off in front of the school reception between 8.30 to 9.30 am on Friday 7th March only. Cars will be allowed to pull into this area to allow easy drop off of donations, but please take care not to block traffic, to allow the traffic to continue to flow freely. Members of the Parents’ Association will be on hand to help.
I take this opportunity to thank everybody in our school community who have been most supportive throughout another eventful year. It is heartening to see the whole school community continuing to work in close harmony. Our pupils continue to develop and grow in a happy and congenial learning environment.
We thank all of our parents for your outstanding support at all school events throughout the year. To my staff colleagues I offer my appreciation for all your hard work and dedication to our pupils. I congratulate all our pupils for all their diligent work and compliment them on their overall behaviour.
We also thank our Parents Association for all their hardworking members who have helped to organise our monster Christmas Raffle. I also thank fellow members of Board of Management, our office and caretaker staff who ensure the smooth running of the school.
We pray for our families at Christmas time and remember loved ones who are no longer with us.
Tá súil agan go mbainfidh gach éinne lán taitneamh ón saoire atá le teacht.
Nollaig faoi shéan is faoi mhaise daoibh uilig.
